Mission Statement
The Roscommon Area Recreation Authority’s mission is to benefit a healthier community by implementing effective programs and providing facilities to enhance levels for fitness, recreation and leisure satisfaction across the generations.
We create and promote a broad selection of recreation opportunities for community members and visitors so they can escape their daily routines to enjoy what we have available every day. Our programs support healthy lifestyles, promote leisure activities, fitness, athletics and provide educational events for the entire community.

Recreation Authority Board
Susan Jock
Chairperson 2007-Present
Lifelong Roscommon resident, retired Nurse Practitioner, small business owner. Past president and board member of Roscommon St. Helen Little League 2007-2019, Volunteer Michigan Firemen’s Memorial Committee, board member of Downtown Development Association.
Cherie Hutek
Secretary and board member since 2017.
Graduate of RHS and resides in Roscommon with two children. Teacher since 1997 and local small business owner.
Eric Hart
Vice-chair and RARA member since 2014.
Eric lives in Roscommon area and represents and works for Hart Ford Lincoln of Roscommon. Past member of Kirtland Community College Foundation and active CRAF Center advisory group.
Derek Smitz
RARA board member since 2012.
Lives in Roscommon for 24 years with his wife and 3 Children. Teacher/Coach at Roscommon High School 24 years. Varsity Baseball/JV Basketball, Past Head Coach for Roscommon St. Helen Little League for 20 years.
Hunter Mires
Board Member since 2022.
Resides in Roscommon with his wife and child. Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (SM), Financial Advisor for North Central Area Credit Union. Hunter actively serves the Roscommon Rotary, the RARA and the Higgins Lake/Roscommon
Chamber of Commerce.
Jim Fischer
Board member since 2024.
Resides in Roscommon, career with MDNR 37 years, State Wildland Fire Manager.
Belongs to Gerrish Township Fire and EMS Department as first responder and fire chief.
Active with Roscommon Rotary, Northern Michigan Fire Chiefs Association, Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, coached youth soccer and basketball.
Steve Hinds
Board member since 2020 Lives in Roscommon for the last 30 years. Past basketball coach in the Roscommon Area Public Schools and referee. He enjoys outdoor activities the area has to offer.Jory Klumpp
Recreation Director
Grew up in Houghton Lake and lives in St. Helen. Jory, his wife and children follow their faith and volunteer at Life Church St. Helen and Charlton Heston Academy. Spending family time outside enjoying nature is a favorite past time.
