The Roscommon Area Recreation Authority has a land maintenance agreement with the mDNR to groom and maintain the eight-mile trail known as Tisdale Pathway on the north perimeter in the Village of Roscommon. We also care for the Mason Tract, one of the most scenic pristine stretches of trail that stretches eight miles running along the holy waters of the Ausable River from Chase Bridge to Smith Bridge. In the winter these trails are groomed, by vonlunteers, on an “as needed” basis according to snowfall and posted on our RARA Facebook page. Trails at the North State Park and Hartwick are groomed by the DNR on an “as needed” basis as well. Cross Country Ski Headquarters, Hanson Hills and Forebush are private and publicly managed. For trail reports in our area go to nordicskiracer.com.
Most trails are basic foot traffic, some bikes in the summer and cross country skis and snowshoes in the winter, check the trailhead for specifics. Recreation Passport is required to utilize state trails, on site box at National Forest trails and trail passes at Hanson, Forbush, and Ski Headquarters.
